Heard of Hybrid Cars? Electric Cars? How about Compressed-air green Cars?

We’ve heard about Electric Cars and hybrid cars. While most of these are in various stages of conceptual readiness- many are road ready too. Ready or not- this is a great trend. Petrol and Diesel run vehicles are top contributors to negative environmental impact- and the more we can do to reduce this impact, the better.

Innovation in this field of eco-friendly vehicles is breaking boundaries already. In a very recent news- Toyota cars introduced a new version of their compressed air powered concept car- The KU:RIN. {Translated from Japanese- it could mean- kanji for “air” (ku) and “wheel” (rin)}

Though it is a concept car- unlikely to hit the roads (can just run about 3 miles on one “Fill”) it is a notch above other such past trials.

This little pencil-shaped rocket (3.5m long, but just 0.8m wide) just broke the speed record for compressed air-powered vehicles- clocking 80.3 MPH running on compressed air alone!

The compressed air is not really fuel, but it acts as energy storage fulfilling much the same role as a battery pack in an electric car.

Innovative? Can compressed air be the answer? Is it really low-impact on the planet?
